APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE 2008 JANET & WALTER SONDHEIM ARTSCAPE PRIZE

Mayor Sheila Dixon and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts announced today the third edition of the Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize, awarding a $25,000 prize to a visual artist or visual artist collaborators working in the Baltimore region. Applications are now being accepted for The Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize, designed specifically to assist area artists further their careers by allowing them to pursue tracks in their work that may not otherwise be possible. The competition is open to artists in Maryland; Washington D.C.; Delaware; Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties in Virginia; and Adams, Chester, Franklin and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania, working in all visual media. Materials are due by Friday, December 7 to The Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize, Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, 7 East Redwood Street, Suite 500, Baltimore, Maryland 21202.The project culminates with approximately six finalists exhibiting at the Baltimore Museum of Art from June 21 through August 2 and finalists, not selected for the prize, will also receive a $1,500 honorarium. The semi-finalists will exhibit at the Maryland Institute College of Arts from July 17 through August 2, 2008. Awarded by an outside panel of three jurors, the festival will announce the winner at the Artists Receptions on Saturday, July 12. Artscape is presented by Mayor Sheila Dixon and produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts. Applicants should include a CD-Rom containing five jpeg images of work, a one page resume, a signed and completed application, a hard copy of a one page resume and image description form along with the $25 application fee. Image files on the CD should be labeled last name first, first name, and the number corresponding to the description sheet last. Each image should be sized at 72 dpi at approximately 12” x 16”. No application materials will be returned. The submitted materials will be reviewed by an outside panel of jurors, who will be announced on November 16, 2007.
