Songs on the Wind
May 20, 2011 | Ali Haris Syed

5-21songsonthewindThe Creative Alliance is currently hosting the “Songs on the Wind” exhibit featuring Huichol artist Francisco Loza and sculptor Gale Jamieson. The exhibit contains traditional Huichol yarn paintings with a 3D twist from Loza and tree sculptures composed of newspaper and magazine pages from Jamieson. I couldn’t agree more with Creative Alliance Artistic Director Jed Dodds in describing the relationship between the two styles as “the sort of counterpoint that works really well.” The exhibition is on view through May 28, 2011 at the Creative Alliance.

In the first video we interview Gale Jamieson and highlight her works and have Jed Dodds give an introduction to both artists’ works.

In the second video we focus on the works by Francisco Loza and the children’s workshops currently happening at the Creative Alliance.

This Saturday, May 21, the Creative Alliance will kickoff the “Songs on the Wind First Nations Gathering” with a Huíchol marketplace and a performance event with Native Americans from around the state joining the Huícholes. The reception from 6-8 pm is free, however, the performance at 8 pm will cost $15 to non-members/$10 to members of the Creative Alliance.
