This past Thursday we decided to check out the Walters Art Museum’s Lunch and Learn event. These events seek out innovative scientists and artists within the Walters and in the local community and have them give a one-hour lunchtime presentation combining a current exhibition at the Walters and the historic or scientific research currently utilizing it. This month, Glen Gates presented his research in conservation science in an event titled, “Revealing the Mysteries of Medieval Reliquaries Through Scientific Analysis.” So, what exactly does that mean? In short, Gates took beautiful medieval reliquaries from different parts of the globe and did an analysis of the materials to show similarities or differences in the production process. In the video, we were able to interview Walters’ scientist Glen Gates and Walters’ event planners Lisa Lewenz, and Natalia Panfile.

Lunch and Learn: 1st Thursday of Every Month (October – June)
Inviting, easy to digest information. Glad I found this wonderful gem, an easy way to include the public in a way that is palatable as well as incredibly informative. This could be such a meal for local schools at every level. Bravo Walter’s, bravo!
