Each year, Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA) coordinates Maryland Arts Day to gather arts administrators, patrons, volunteers and artists to raise their voices in support of state funding for the arts in Maryland. As a legislator, and trustee of MCA, I can speak directly to the effectiveness of this day in the minds of legislators who have difficult decisions to make about programs to invest in. Maryland Arts Day gives individual citizens a forum to be heard on an issue that they strongly support and gives law makers the opportunity to hear what is on the minds of their constituents.
Supporters gather from all over the state and have the opportunity to participate in professional development round tables and workshops as well as communicate with colleagues in their own fields who are doing similar work in different regions. Attendees hear from leaders in the field and from legislators who share their passion for and understanding of the role the arts play in an economically and culturally vibrant Maryland. Join us for Maryland Arts Day on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Register today at www.mdarts.org.
