The story behind Baltimore’s Magazines Best New Boutique winner.
Who said that in this economy and in Baltimore it is too whimsical of a thought to follow your dreams on the premise that “if not now, when?”
Jennifer Solomon always wanted her own women’s and men’s wear boutique. She moved to Baltimore from Oklahoma almost ten years ago. Her mother, Patty Pearson, after visiting for many years, decided to follow her daughter to the reputed Greatest City in America. She retired and began her new life as Jennifer’s business partner as the two embarked on a mission to own their boutique.
After extensive research to identify their individual style and the perfect location in Federal Hill, the mother-daughter team began to build what is now the cozy, welcoming store Whimsy/Reason. Staying true to Jennifer’s original creative voice, the store is unique in many ways. Much of the store almost seems airborne as the fashionable clothes are hanged on suspended branches and saved pieces of wood such as the abandoned ladder they found that has now become one of the most interesting details about the entrance. An enchanting chandelier and other quirky details make every customer feel like they are shopping in a fairytale. Every decorating piece is handpicked by Jennifer once she declares them as whimsically appropriate. The merchandise doesn’t disappoint since it’s simply magical and the variety caters to everyone willing to spend a delightful experience finding trendy but exclusive clothes for every season. Whimsy/Reason is a true product of family, even Patty’s oldest daughter contributed by painting the theme inspired mural inside the store. Even though these are hard times, Patty says they are staying with it, strong, thankful and hopeful for the future, especially since the recent birth of her niece. Another woman added to the female dream team.
The award of Best New Boutique was definitely merited and should serve as an example that dreams, no matter how whimsical, can come true.
