Several years ago Irene Hoffman brought Broadcast to the Contemporary. The exhibit included a piece by Gregory Green, a low-power FM station whose reach was maybe a four block radius. I monitored the exhibition on Sundays and I had a lot of fun bringing in old mixtapes and playing them although probably no one was probably listening. I can’t complain about radio in this town– I like WTMD, I feel fortunate to have it. I like WYPR and its several personalities. Nevertheless, the prospect of a MICA radio station is extremely exiting to me. Zack Genin and Amber Moyles, seniors at MICA enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Sculpture program, have been working hard to get WICV off the ground. They were generous enough to take some time to speak with me about their project and their thoughts about radio and live broadcast in general. Currently you can tune in by logging on to http://radio.mica.edu, and you can show your support by joining them on facebook. And they’ll be broadcasting live from this year’s Artscape, from the Midway. Their scheduled programming is a little spotty right now, but right now, that’s consistent with their concept.
