A slight repose from the general chaos and hipsterpalooza that is the Transmodern Festival, the Nudashank Galllery has produced a show that lives up to to its obscure title, Horror Vacui. The title infers the fear of empty spaces, the works use the aesthetics of digital technology in a modern exploration of the age old question of the void. Upon entering the gallery, one is immediately confronted by the anxious yet alluring light and video pieces by Benjamin Phelan. The haunting and mesmerizing quality of this work is echoed in Laura Brothers‘ black and white digital prints. Though some of the vivid imagery will leave a lasting impression, Nudashank’s current show is subtle and thoughtful– a welcome respite amidst the excitement of this weekend’s festivities at the H&H building.
