The Book Thing of Baltimore
March 6, 2010 | Sasha Funk
“To put unwanted books into the hands of those who want them” is the mission of The Book Thing of Baltimore, a free book warehouse that encourages you to be greedy and fill your arms- or one of the cardboard boxes that they usually have on hand- with used books. The warehouse is organized into sections, packed with books ranging in subject from cookbooks to children’s books to novels to atlases, as well as stacks of magazines (including an impressive collection of National Geographics). The covers are worn and many of the titles are dated, but the Book Thing is full of treasures- if you’re willing to spend some time perusing the shelves. It’s open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 6; get there early before all the good one’s get snatched up.
