Radar Redux.com is expanding the traditional concept of journalism, to cover a wide array of Baltimore Arts and Culture. We are a partnership between the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Johns Hopkins University.
The Legg Mason building in Harbor East hosts Baltimore’s first ever Pop Up Shop, open every day until Christmas Eve, from noon til 7 pm. Stores taking up temporary residence include: Dresscode by Gita, Doubledutch, Shine Collective, Patrick Sutton Home, and Di[e]ce. Here, an authentic (!) Google Chat conversation between Radar writers, Ali Stevens and Dana Covit.
Dana: Good stuff going on in the Legg Mason building this month.
Ali: It was amazing
Dana : I’m sad it’s only for a month but it’s a start….first Pop Up shop in baltimore
Ali: It’s such a cool idea. I’d never heard of it before
Dana: You’re not alone, haha. I’ve told a bunch of people and they all look at me confused when i say “pop up shop.” I think it’s pretty big in New York
Ali: I thought it was going to be a trial run for a store, like if a store wasn’t sure it was going to be successful, they could rent a space for just a month.
Dana: It’s actually 5 established stores in the Baltimore area: Shine Collective, Double Dutch, Diece, Dress Code by Gita and Patrick Sutton Home.
Ali:Yeah, I was definitely wrong. I liked the range.
Dana: Yeah it was like being in a little department store microcosm… lots of eye-candy, especially at Diece, such amazing artwork! and do you remember the greeting cards? i think my favorite things there…
Ali: It was cool how the owners of the shops, and in some cases the creators of the pieces, were there. Those postcards were great.
Dana: I wanted to buy an entire stack, make a little birthday stash with them so when friends’ birthdays roll around i have something spunky and great to give
Ali: I think the artist was local.
Dana: Yeah, i think so too – they also had some cool stuff from Natty Paint
Ali: Did they do the hand painted sweatshirts?
Dana: Yeah, i was in love with one of them but i was trying to stay focused! take photos and keep it business! Save my wallet. But double dutch though – you almost bought that dress. It was totally affordable, you should have.
Ali: You were very professional
Dana: Ahyes thank you
Ali:I have total non-buyers remorse about that dress is that a saying?
Dana: hahaha
Aw, GO BACK and buy it!
Ali: they had amazing stuff
Dana: Especially good for holiday gifts
in every price range literally, you know?
Ali: Definitely
Dana: that one really fancy place.. Patrick Sutton Home?
Ali: So amazing. So beyond my college student budget.
What was that book you were looking at?
Dana: Oh, what was it, I forget
The huge one? It was the Tom Ford book, no?
Ali: There was that one, and there was one of a model.
Dana: Veruschka!
Ali: that’s it!
Dana: So awesome, it would be the size of my tables in my little apartment though, so not a good coffee table book yet
Ali: Something to strive towards. I loved the books and the jewelry.
Dana: at Shine?
Ali: At Shine but also at the middle spot
Dana: Dress Code by Gita? the Tom Binns stuff.
Incredible. another thing to strive towards.
Ali: Oh definitely, that starburst cuff…
so beautiful
Dana: yeah, would go nicely with everything hanging in my closet for the holidays.
And do you remember the film installation they were putting up at Shine? looked good….
Ali: they filmed it themselves, right?
Dana: Yeah, the girl in it works for Shine.
Ali: She seemed so cool. Who thought of doing a Baltimore pop up shop?
Dana: Gita, over at Desscode. Apparently, she got the idea when she was in London recently, she spoke to some developers, and they all thought it was a great idea. She seemed really excited with the end product, that a bunch of other Baltimore shops were into the concept and wanted to be a part of it
Ali: I think it’s such a good idea, they consolidated all these cool bmore stores into one space
Dana: handpicked the best stuff there right now
and are making it easy for holiday shoppers or anyone really … very cool, very “savvy” ..
Ali: and it’s cool to see what baltimore has. i don’t know if i would have gone to a lot of those places, since i mainly stick to hampden shopping, but now i really want to check out the flagship dresscode and diece-is that the one with the postcards?
Dana: yep, diece with the quirky postcards and greeting cards
Ali: definitely want to see the whole store
Dana: me too
hooray for baltimore goodness
and shopping activism
Ali: thanks for bringing me!
Ali: we should go back…. very soon…
Dana: For the dress! Seriously, it will haunt you during the holiday season – a long sleeve black lace dress? with some dark burgundy tights?
I’m the little shopping devil on your shoulder
Ali: I’m sold
Dana: and more oogling at the tom binns jewels
The Pop-Up shop will be up and running until Christmas Eve, and is open everyday from noon – 7pm. Its located on the ground floor of the new Legg Mason Building in Harbor East, on the circle between Oceanaire & Roy’s.

Thanks for your post on the “pop up shop.” It’s a great addition to that Harbor East area and I wish it would remain for more than a month. And yes, I ended up buying a dress ($68 steal) from Double Dutch.
