After receiving a laudable review for their latest album “Apple’s Acre,” Nurses, the quickly rising Portland-based trio, announced their international tour this Fall. With debut artist We Read Minds, they landed in Baltimore at The Ottobar on October 9th. The quality of Nurses’ recent recording is intimately laced with ethereal harmonies, homey lyrics, and mesmerizing rhythms, which is precisely what they brought on tour with them at their live shows.

The crowd instantly took pleasure in the delicate piano tinkles and singer’s haunting vocals during the night’s opener, “Technicolor,” summoning a few of Baltimore’s more uninhibited spectators to move in a trance-like, yet unmistakable, appreciation.

The three-piece band served strong, foot-tapping tracks one after another for the duration of their atmospheric set, grinning enthusiastically with every resonating note they played. Nurses could very well be the cousin of many popular indie-rock Baltimore bands, what with their tight sound and whacky looks. And it’s the icing on the cake that their disheveled appearances and free-spirited instrumental decorations perfectly compliment their catchy whistles and melodies.
