It’s Time to Get Drawnk!

Drawing, friends, and beer: an incredible combination, but rarely a high proposition for party themes or get-togethers. Now, for the first time ever, Baltimore’s creative community in Station North Arts Distict has a happy hour dedicated just to this combination. The aptly titled ‘DRAWNK Drawing Happy Hour’ is presented at the Windup Space. Richard Kercz, brothers Justin and Josh Gilman, and Jacob Lockard are the four masterminds who began the creative aspect behind organizing Drawnk – working in collaboration with Russell de Ocampo, the owner of Windup. It doesn’t matter if you are the king of stick-figures or Chuck Close himself: DRAWNK’s mascot, a deranged Natty Boh face illustrated by Rick with brew-spittle, hand-drawn lettering by Justin is just one example of how interesting the happy hour can get.

Folks are encouraged to come to The Windup Space on the first Tuesday of every month from 6-9 pm to engage in a monthly “theme” in which creative juices will surely flow over plenty of brews. Themes in the past have included Vampires and Exquisite Corpse; this month’s theme is Monster Mash-Ups. But by no means must you stay within the theme… Drawnk is the place to draw your wildest dreams, or to simply have a beer and chat. Some supplies are provided: paper and pencils, but feel free to bring your own favorite supplies!

“It’s a great way to meet local artists . . . We hope to provide networking opportunities for artists as well as potential collaborations,” Justin Gilman states. At the end of the year, these four gentleman plan to create a Drawnk book and also exhibit all of the artwork this upcoming May at The Windup.

Cheers!
