Sondheim Prize 2009 @ the BMA
July 29, 2009 | Jack Livingston

SondheimDomeThis year’s Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize exhibition (presented by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts in partnership with The Baltimore Museum of Art) is excellent- as good as any exhibition we have seen anywhere the past few years. It is the most “contemporary” Sondheim exhibition to date, with high quality concept driven installation art ruling the day. The six finalists include the Baltimore Development Cooperative, Leslie Furlong, Ryan Hackett, Jessie Lehson, Molly Springfield, and Karen Yasinsky.

We are writing this after the event, so everyone knows far and wide the youthful socially minded Baltimore Development Cooperative took the day. Rather shocking in some respects but then again, not really.
(To read an interesting analysis of the show read Cara Obers blog commentary: at Bmore Art.)

We here at RADARredux give you the entire night in video and image, with the full audio intros and our very handsome mayors’ announcing the winners along with a special surprise announcement.

Note: Video was shot the night of the festivities, audio is of that nights ceremony, still installation shots of exhibition courtesy of the BMA, other still images of the artists work not in the exhibition were culled from the artists’ individual websites and included here to give a broader view of each artists oeuvre.

Special thanks to the BMA and to all the artists.
