Radar Redux.com is expanding the traditional concept of journalism, to cover a wide array of Baltimore Arts and Culture. We are a partnership between the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Johns Hopkins University.
Although the Baltimore Free Store’s concept seems most directly influenced by the recent Green Movement, the original conception of a “free store” originates from a nineteen sixties political improv group, “The Diggers,” who sought to confront notions of private property and capitalism in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. Their group offered not only random stuff but also food, health care and temporary shelter. The affiliated footage documents a recent Free Store fundraiser consisting of a silent auction, homemade food, a short film viewing of “The Story of Stuff” and live music including local artist MacGregor Burns.
